Christopher Rubaire-Akiiki
C. M. Rubaire-Akiiki is a Professor of Veterinary Parasitology at the prestigious Makerere University. He is a veterinarian specialised in epidemiology and control of parasitic diseases in human beings and animals. Rubaire-Akiiki graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Veterinary Medicine in 1975 at the University of Nairobi. He later upgraded at the same university and graduated with a Master of Science in Medical and Veterinary Entomology in 1979. In 1980, he joined Makerere University as a lecturer of Veterinary Parasitology. Since then, he has risen through the ranks up to Professor of Veterinary Parasitology, having obtained a PhD from Makerere University in 1994. He has taught courses in epidemiological research approaches, farming systems research approaches, and livestock-environment interactions, including the eco-health concept.
Professor Rubaire-Akiiki is a specialist in ecologically sound pest management systems, epidemiological techniques in parasitic disease investigations, livestock systems research methodologies, and livestock-environment interactions. He has published widely on tick-vertebrate host interactions, the epidemiology of tick-borne diseases, and veterinary medical practices in organic farming.
